Advice and laying instructions for stone facings

CHECK THE BACKING SUPPORTS:

The supports on which the stone facing is to be glued must be solid, dry, clean, free of dust, oil or fat, old paint and any other substance that could affect its adherence.

In case of doubt, attach the metal grid ZINCORETE 2,5 to the wall using the expansion fixings and smooth a thin layer of special B&B glue.

WEATHER:

Do not use the glue if the temperature is near zero or if frost is forecast in the days immediately following application. Do not use the product on a wet substrate or if rain is expected.

APPLICATIONS:

It is also possible to apply the B&B stone claddings on special substrates such as wood, metal, insulating materials, plasterboard, ventilated walls, etc. We recommend contacting the B&B technical office to plan these kinds of projects.

All stones placed in the “random mix” pattern can be laid either dry or with joints. During packaging, we always account for a 20 mm joint. Therefore, in case of dry laying, approximately 15% more material is required.

PROTECTION AGAINST WATER INFILTRATIONS: it is essential to prevent rainwater from infiltrating between the facing and the supporting wall. Therefore, a covering should always be provided using a roof, flashings, metal sheet edges, or capping slabs.

Laying instructions for bricks and brick-slips

B&B facing bricks and brick slips are natural products, subject to variations in raw materials and the firing process.

This results in variations in the color shades of the finished bricks and brick slips. To achieve an aesthetically pleasing final effect, the following operational guidelines should be observed:

- Before starting, ensure that the site has enough material to complete the entire job.

- Take bricks or brick slips from at least three different packages simultaneously, working vertically from one corner. Proper mixing ensures that color variations are evenly distributed, creating a visually appealing effect (fig. B).

- Never use sponges or wet tools, especially when laying brick slips. To clean them, use a dry brush gently.

ADVICE
Piles of bricks and brick-slips should always be elevated above the ground to prevent soiling, and the top of each pile should be covered with a plastic sheet. (fig. A)

LAYING OF FACING BRICK-SLIPS

  1. Remove the deteriorated plaster and chip the wall.
  2. Smooth a layer, at least 6 mm thick, of anti-slip glue with a notched trowel.
  3. Lay the brick-slips.
  4. Fill the joint with B&B mortar using the special filler bag.
  5. Spread and press the mortar using the appropriate tool.
  6. Brush off any mortar residues without using water.

B&B SPECIAL GLUE:

It is always recommended to use the special B&B glue. The glue should ALWAYS be applied using the double-spreading method, both on the wall and on the back of the piece to be installed. Using a notched trowel, spread the glue on the wall with horizontal and vertical strokes. Work in small sections to prevent the glue from drying and forming a “skin.” Apply the glue to the back of the stone and press it firmly against the wall.

B&B Mortar

Certified efflorescence-resistant product, specially formulated for B&B claddings, available in 5 colours.

The increased grain size, achieved by mixing inert sands, creates a refined “antique” effect. Ideal for facing bricks, brick-slips, natural and reconstituted stone.

25 Kg bag.

Joint filler bag B&B

For perfect application, use the exclusive B&B filler bag.

DRYSYSTEM

We recommend using DRYSYSTEM to:

 - Ensure maximum wall breathability and allow the drainage of any condensation.

- Ensure effective sealing for walls in contact with the ground that are not waterproofed.

- Resolve the issue of rising damp.
